Description of Operation

As wire is rewound onto smaller rolls the dancer arm measures the diameter of wire being applied to the roll. This is fed back into the controller which controls the voltage going into the OPC clutch, keeping a constant tension on the wire as it is rewound.

Reason for Selection of Hysteresis Brake

Magnetic particle clutches are especially suited for drag and winding applications. The voltage to torque relationship is almost linear and therefore accurate control can be maintained in winding applications.

Other Applications

Any type of wire manufacturer has applications for magnetic particle clutches and brakes for controlling their tension. Besides wire, tape, film and foil, there are other light torque rewind applications where magnetic particle clutches and brakes are used. This installation does not show a magnetic particle brake on the unwind roll; however, many installations do have one.
